CBT Training Program

Prepare for your CBT examination with our intensive 14-day course featuring comprehensive study materials, practice tests, and expert guidance for guaranteed success.

What is the CBT?

The CBT (Computer-Based Test) is the first part of the NMC Test of Competence (ToC) for internationally educated nurses and midwives who wish to register and work in the United Kingdom.

The CBT is designed to test your theoretical and clinical knowledge in line with UK nursing standards. It evaluates whether you have the essential understanding of nursing care, public health, professional values, and evidence-based practice required to deliver safe and effective care in the UK.

It is administered online at Pearson VUE test centres located worldwide.

Who Needs to Take the CBT?

You must take the CBT if:

International Nurses

You are a nurse or midwife trained outside the UK and want to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Registration Pathway

You are applying to the NMC International Registration pathway.

Structure of the CBT

The CBT consists of a multiple-choice test split into two main parts:

Part A: Numeracy

Duration:30 minutes
Questions:15

Focuses on basic drug calculations, fluid volumes, dosage, and conversions commonly used in UK nursing practice.

Part B: Clinical Theory

Duration:2 hours 30 minutes
Questions:100

Covers a wide range of topics including professional values, communication skills, nursing decision-making, patient safety, infection prevention, and mental health nursing care.

You must answer both sections in one sitting, and a pass in both is required to move to the next stage of registration – the NMC OSCE.

Where Can I Take the CBT?

You can take the CBT in Pearson VUE test centres available in most countries worldwide, including:
